Spelling and Anti-Bullying Awareness Week
You can find the word wall words for this week here and a word wall game here.
We kick started our Anti-Bullying Awareness week in the gym this afternoon. The Grade Threes prepared a wonderful presentation and the school recited a pledge to stop bullying. The school listened to the powerful story "Don't Laugh at Me". We also read the story called "The Juice Box Bully".Stay tuned for some activities the grade two classes are working on to prevent bullying. We learned a little about the artist M.C. Escher and began to make our own tesselations.

Ariane Test Drives 'Educreations'
Educreations is one of my favourite ways for students to show evidence of learning. Ariane test drove the app for the first time today and she did a wonderful job of explaining her patterns. Well done! She did this all by herself...way to go!

Samaritans on the Digital Road
We began our week long unit in Religion called "Samaritans on the Digital Road". This valuable resource builds upon the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 25-37). Yesterday, we watched a video about the Good Samaritan. Later, we discussed how we can be a good citizen both at school and home. As we get further along in the unit, we will be learning more about the responsible use of technology. The Citizen wrote an article about this school board wide initiative. If you would like to follow along with us, please click here!

Secondary Colours and Lines...ART TIME!
One day we took some primary colours and mixed them together...voila! We created secondary colours...purple, green and orange. These three colours scream "Hallowe'en" so we created art using only secondary colours...a pumpkin. a Frankenstein head and a witches hat!
Before reading the poem called 'Help', we had to draw what we thought the monster looked like. After reading the poem together, we visualized what the monster really looked like...seven legs!
We also have been learning about all the different kinds of lines there are...vertical, horizontal, pointy and curvy. We had to fill 8 boxes with a different kind of line...some of us even invented our own line like 'tornado'!

Happy Birthday, Anyuan, Pumpkin Seed Estimation and Wicked Wind
Happy Birthday, Anyuan! Hope you have a 'whale' of a time!
Today, Mason and Jacob took the 'guts' out of our pumpkin...then Hannah and Ashlynn cleaned the seeds and placed them on paper to dry. Later, we decided the best strategy to count our pumpkin seeds was to place them in groups of ten. Mason came closest to estimating the number of seeds in our very large pumpkin...he guessed 340 and there were actually 653!!! Mrs. A only estimated 200 pumpkin seeds. Take a look at our Fotobabble about our pumpkin seed inquiry!
I had to record this on my iphone! Wicked wind today...power out and lots of things blowing around...
