Congratulations, Annabelle and Jingles Hi-Jinks!

Annabelle performed in the Nutcracker this weekend.  She did a fabulous job and did not look nervous at all!  I definitely got into the Christmas Spirit after watching these wonderful ballet dancers.
Getting ready for another performance!

Crystals and Jingles is my name!

Our crystals went home today and what did we learn? Well...we turned a liquid (the Borax dissolved in boiling water) into a solid (crystals).  They look so beautiful! It looks like the name chosen for our class elf is...Jingles!  Great name and thanks for voting!

Sorting

We began our data management inquiry with a sorting activity.  Groups rotated around the classroom and sorted the objects on the table.  They were not told how to sort them and were asked to write down how they sorted the objects.  See if you can guess how they sorted the objects! Don't forget to vote on a name for our class elf...see below!

Guess who came to our class?

Ooops!  Upside down!

We have an elf in our class!

Please take a moment to pick a name for our elf!

What should we call our elf?

This Friday, the grade 6s are hosting a White Elephant sale at St. Cecilia.  If children would like to purchase any items they are priced from 25 cents to 3$.  Please bring a plastic bag from home to carry any of your deals!  Food for our hamper is due this Monday or Tuesday. On December 10th, students are invited to wear their pjs as part of our ongoing Advent projects as well as donating Canadian Tire money.  Thanks in advance!  Don't forget to bring in your Caring Angels to share with the class...the angel craft was instead of our usual homework package.

O Little Town of Bethlehem

Today, we got together with Mrs. Proulx's Class to recreate a Bethlehem scene. After discussing what it might have looked like when Mary and Joseph rode into the town, we began to create our own Bethlehem. Take a look at our work!

Advent and Technology Presentation

It is the first week of Advent.  The children will be bringing home their Caring Angel to complete for homework.  Please check out the example below! The school is also involved in preparing Christmas hampers for families in the community.  You will find a note/sticker with the item your child has been asked to bring in to help the needy.

Students who were absent on Friday would have missed our technology presentation.  Here it is if you would like to watch or review!

Spelling and Anti-Bullying Awareness Week

You can find the word wall words for this week here and a word wall game here.
We kick started our Anti-Bullying Awareness week in the gym this afternoon.  The Grade Threes prepared a wonderful presentation and the school recited a pledge to stop bullying.  The school listened to the powerful story "Don't Laugh at Me".  We also read the story called "The Juice Box Bully".Stay tuned for some activities the grade two classes are working on to prevent bullying.  We learned a little about the artist M.C. Escher and began to make our own tesselations.

Ariane Test Drives 'Educreations'

Educreations is one of my favourite ways for students to show evidence of learning.  Ariane test drove the app for the first time today and she did a wonderful job of explaining her patterns.  Well done! She did this all by herself...way to go!

Samaritans on the Digital Road

We began our week long unit in Religion called "Samaritans on the Digital Road".  This valuable resource builds upon the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 25-37). Yesterday, we watched a video about the Good Samaritan. Later, we discussed how we can be a good citizen both at school and home.  As we get further along in the unit, we will be learning more about the responsible use of technology.  The Citizen wrote an article about this school board wide initiative. If you would like to follow along with us, please click here!

My apologies for the sound quality...not sure if it is my microphone or the pods where we recorded...but the thinking is there!
